Our Facilities: Where it all happens

East Lothian Produce’s purpose-built packhouse has been the home of our supermarket grading, processing and packing facility for over 15 years. Here, we deal with every aspect of readying the vegetables for dispatch.

We have three onsite cold stores, which are essential for keeping our produce in perfect condition. Having 3 separate stores means we can shut down 1 or 2 when they’re not needed, reducing energy consumption.

Our grading facilities include a cabbage trimming and blowing line, where our red and white cabbages are size-graded and trimmed ready for packing; and a multi-stage sizing and quality grader for our sprouts.

We have two overwrapping machines with heat tunnels for our red and white cabbage. Once wrapped, the cabbages are hand-labelled and packed into trays. Savoy cabbage is packed into bags, often in the field for maximum freshness.

We pack most of our sprouts into pre-packs, and some into trays, depending on demand. We have two pre-packing lines including a newly installed continuous flow vertical form filler which weighs, packs and labels up to 90 bags a minute.

Haulage

We operate three lorries and a fleet of trailers, some of which are refrigerated. We deliver most of our products direct to our customers every day. Our lorries are also available for external haulage and we hold an International Operators Licence so we can transport your goods across the UK and beyond.
